Frequently asked questions

General questions

How can agriculture consulting help my farming?

The cultivation process is a long-term process, but it involves several phases. Think of each phase as a small, short-term goal to achieve. A consulting firm can help you achieve these short-term goals more effectively and efficiently. Three areas where a consulting firm can help you are: better technology, better methodology, and better access to funding.

What are fertilizers and how to read the label?

Fertilizers are substances or compounds that provide plants with nutrients for growth and development that are lacking in the soil. There are three bold numbers on the fertilizer label, such as 10.10.10 or 10-10-10, which means that the first number indicates the amount of nitrogen, the second number indicates the amount of phosphate, and the third number indicates the amount of potash. The total number on the label represents the major nutrients contained in the fertilizer. This is a national standard for fertilizer classification. 10 means the percentage of nutrients present in the fertilizer.

What type of fertilizers do farmers use?

Farmers use different fertilizers depending on the crop they are growing because each plant or crop has different nutrient needs and it is very important to understand the differences in crop needs when fertilizing crops. Most farmers mainly use chemical-based NPK fertilizers. Besides, farmers also use organic or natural fertilizers when they grow organic food or when the plant needs only organic elements. It is common knowledge that soil fertility decreases after years of cultivation on the same land or due to unfavorable weather conditions, i.e. the nutrients required by the plants are no longer provided by the soil in sufficient quantities. In such circumstances, it is important to supply the soil with the missing nutrients so that the plants can grow healthily and be productive.

What is organic fertilizers?

Natural fertilizers, also called organic fertilizers, are those derived from animal material, human excreta, and plant material (compost and crop residues). Some compounds or substances are formed naturally on the earth such as peat, manure, slurry, guano, etc. and are also considered organic. They contain or provide the same nutrients as the chemical compounds, but the composition is different and cannot be changed.

How does fertilizers help for farming?

Each element in fertilizer affects the development and functioning of different parts of the plant. Fertilizers also help to improve the condition of the soil by helping it retain water and keeping the roots well aerated. Nitrogen in fertilizer helps the plant form stems, flowers and fruits and provides the green color of the foliage. Phosphorus in fertilizer contributes to the formation of oil and starch in fruits and keeps the root system strong. Potassium helps the plant fight plant diseases and build up the protein content in the plant.
