  • The Gir cow weighs 400 to 425 kg, the bull 525 to 550 kg, and the newborn calf generally weighs 20 to 25 kg.
  • The body color of the cow ranges from yellowish red to dark red, along with red, white spots and brown spots. The majority of cows are red in color.
  • In general, Gir has a length of 127 cm to 137 cm, a height of 125 cm to 132 cm and a chest circumference of 166 cm.
The head of a cow is generally plump, raised and heavy. The brain and pituitary gland are located below the head. The pituitary gland secretes the reproductive and body growth hormone.
  • The ears are another distinctive feature of the cow. The ears come out near the root of the hanger and hang long and downward. The ears of the Gir cow are the longest in the entire cow society, measuring about 30 cm in length. There is a groove at the tip of the ear and the edges of the ear are curved on the inside. In some Gir cows, the ears are curved in a spiral shape.
  • The eye of the cow has the shape of a nut and is covered with an eyelid. The cows appear gentle and calm out of the eye. The skin around the eye is very loose. The heavy head makes the eyes sparkle, so this breed looks lethargic.
  • The cows have a variety of horns in shape and size. They are slightly thick, behind the head and turn down behind, and then turns slightly upward. The arched horns are a symbolic feature of this cow. Gir is the only breed whose horns come from below and from the back of the head. Studies show that there is a correlation between the shape of the horns and milk yield.
  • The shape, size and quality of the udder is important for the best dairy cow. The shape of the udder should hold the maximum amount of milk and hang it as far down as possible. Like any other cow, the Gir cow has four teats. The ring at the top of the teats prevents the milk from dripping and insects from getting inside.
  • The flabby and loose skin of Gir cows is constricted from everywhere. The prostate gland under the skin causes sweating on the body. The formation of the skin protects the cow from external insects and pests.
  • Calm, kind and gentle Gir cows are easy to control. The Gir wants to be pampered with love in the middle of the pockets, around the head and in the middle of the patch. This is easy to experience. Frequent petting builds trust with the shepherd.
